MINGUS AMONG US
(PRAGUE SPRING X UNKNOWN)  40" x 7" ml dor dip, 3 way branching, bud count 13-5.  Named after the legendary jazz bassist, Charles Mingus, (I couldn't let Dan Bachman have all jazz greats), MINGUS AMONG US is a distinctive red with a darker red eye and yellow green throat.  While the sepals are often quilled, as with several of this years' introductions, the quilling is not consistent enough to register it as an unusual form.  The two photos show it in its unusual form mode and when it fails to meet the definition.  It is quite pod fertile, but I can't recall whether I have ever tried its pollen.  Bud count is a bit lower than I would like, but it has a decent fan to scape ratio and the blooms are well spaced so that it blooms over a respectable period.
