PRAY FOR RAIN
Bret Clement 2009
Diploid, Dormant, Mid/late, 8", 52" Height, 3 Way Branching, 15 Budcount UF Cascade.
(Jersey Spider x Lemonfellow)
While some people rely on purple robes, I think there are more reliable methods for bringing on rain. PRAY FOR RAIN proves the adage
that you can't judge a daylily until you see it at clump strength. While it was obviously good enough to be selected, it was not one that I paid
much attention to until this past summer when I realized that PRAY FOR RAIN was the seedling out of several hundred nearby selected seedlings that
consistently drew my attention as I approached the area. Part of its attraction is no doubt due to its 52" scape towering over most other
things (note that the blooms in the clump photo in the foreground that appear shorter are from a sibling) . And while gold is not my favorite
daylily color, a good gold screams for attention. Because it flew under the radar for so long, I don't know much about its fertility.
I don't think I have ever used its pollen and while my records reflect a few seeds from its parentage, they could be from the nearby sibling.
In any event, the genetics are virtually unexplored. Buy it and be the first kid on your block to use it in their breeding program.
But, hurry, because I definitely intend to explore it myself next season.
