REASON FOR BEING

Bret Clement 2008

Diploid, Dormant, em., 7", 46" Height, 2-3 Way Branching, 14 Budcount. UF
(Grapeade x Kindly Light)

REASON FOR BEING just laughed at this past summer's drought. You would have never known that it received virtually no water during the critical period of scape formation. The corner in the back of the garden where the sprinklers don't quite reach would be a perfect spot for REASON FOR BEING. These curly 7 inch yellow blooms on a 40 inch scape with 3 way branching and 18 buds per scape command attention. Like many of this year's introductions, I would not be the least bit surprised if the scapes were taller under normal moisture conditions. The bottom petal occasionally sticks out like an elephant's trunk in the manner of Reinke's GOLD ELEPHANT. Moderately fertile both ways. REASON FOR BEING has been underutilized in my hybridizing but it does give up its color.
